Trail crews have been busy since the hurricanes, and Eglin is in great shape. A new bridge now crosses Blount Creek, and work is under way to build a permanent bridge across often-troublesome Alaqua Creek. Water levels are lower than normal right now.
There is a new FREE thru-hiker permit which you obtain online prior to reaching Eglin. Here are the full details on how to order yours.
On December 23, PerryK shared this photo of the new bridge over Alaqua Creek. The dangerous ford is now a thing of the past.
We’ve learned that this is not a permanent bridge, but a temporary one to allow the construction crew to build the permanent bridge. With blazes leading right up to this swinging bridge, it’s also available for hikers to now cross the creek much more safely.
