Hurricane damage is being worked on in Withlacoochee State Forest. Ralph Hancock and his crew completed clearing all windfalls between the MacNeil Trailhead at SR-471 in Green Swamp West and Devil’s Creek in Richloam/Withlacoochee State Forest in mid-December. There is ongoing work in the Withlacoochee and Croom.
Construction of a paved trail along the Cross Florida Greenway between Santos and Ross Prairie has had minor closures happening at road crossings, all of which should now be open. Some relocations at those spots – specifically 484 and SW 49th Ave – may have occurred.
Watch for signage regards a new permanent reroute north of Marshall Swamp into Silver Springs State Park. The new trail segment leaves Sharpes Ferry Road to the north (trail west), loops into Silver Springs State Park, and pops back out of it to Sharpes Ferry Rd near the Ocklawaha River.
Ocala West has chunks that maintainers have not been able to get to. The trail has been maintained between CR 314A and CR 316 near the 88 Store. South of that, only odds and ends have been mowed. High water and broken boardwalks are a major issue, as are blowdowns that have not been removed. A suggested alternate route is to roadwalk up Sharpes Ferry Rd (which becomes CR 314 where it crosses SR 40) past Fore Lake Campground to the FT crossing at the power line north of the Eaton Creek trailhead turnoff.
